If you have ever worked at an accounting firm or in a local accounting department you have probably heard of the Funlympics. The San Antonio CPA Society has been hosting the Funlympics for the past 35 years. SACPAS coordinates over a hundred volunteers and hundreds of children in local programs or agencies for the one-day event. This year nine ADKF volunteers spent their morning helping make the day run without a hitch. These ladies helped by running security detail, filling up the water stations, managing a group of kids, facilitating an activity, or prepping lunch. Some of the volunteers have been volunteering at this event for years and have it as a reoccurring event on their calendar.
The SACPAS Funlympics committee organizes all of the various field activities with supplies and medals for the kids. Volunteers from all over the city are assigned a task for the day. Children from Boysville, The Children’s Shelter, and many other summer programs attend the event. Buses and vans unload the kids and it’s show time for the volunteers. After the children go to the various stations of activities ranging from water balloon toss to potato sack races everyone gathers in the pavilion for hamburgers and hotdogs. Then before the kids leave they are given a backpacked filled with school supplies to start their academic year off right.
