I had the privilege of being able to join ADKF as a Tax Intern during the 2021 Tax Season. I have had a few experiences with other accounting firms in previous internships and was looking to focus on the parts of accounting I’ve had relatively little experience with such as small business and estate tax returns. After some research I found ADKF, a local expert in these types of tax returns. However, that isn’t all I found when I came to work for ADKF. I found a firm that cared about its staff and has a genuine interest in their wellbeing.
ADKF was a pleasant surprise to me; everyone made sure every intern felt welcomed and supported. From the moment my intern group entered the firm we had people we could go to with our questions. This was a tremendous help, especially considering this internship was conducted entirely remote. Each of us interns were given a buddy that we could go to for help, no matter how small the question. And we needed to ask those questions, because ADKF made sure we were given real work as soon as it is ready for preparation.
The experience you gain as an intern is more valuable than I can express. Even as someone with two prior internships, I learned something new every day. Working with the ADKF tax department was an eye-opening experience. Every client is different, which means that every tax return will end up different, and each one may have their own little tricks to get completed just right. A very beneficial part of my internship was when I was attached to a large, new client group. As an intern, I took part in preparing returns from the various business activities all the way down through to the returns that receive an income from those returns. It was an experience that truly let me see the big picture of accounting and why having an experienced accountant is necessary.
