Each year, ADKF gears up for tax season with a Tax Kickoff training. This year, CPE was given, and the all-day event was held at the San Antonio CPA Society. There was a full day of speakers and activities. The day kicked off with breakfast pastries from Panera Bread and some opening words from the tax partners, followed by some housekeeping with Tax Director, Kelly Boswell. Then the speakers rolled out the knowledge. First up was Senior Tax Manager, Eric McGraw, to talk about new tax law changes. Next, was Tax manager Austin Lee, to discuss changes in Workstream and processes. After a brief break, Senior Tax Manager Dylan Boss spoke on workpapers and financial prep software. Professional Services Division (PSD,) Tax Manager, Nancy Meza talked about proper client communications. Tax Director, Kelly Boswell, added an update on tax controversy.
Then it was time for lunch, catered by Jason’s Deli! During the lunch break, Dr. Michael Boss, of Juice Boss HQ, spoke to the staff about stabilizing posture and increasing energy from your desk during tax season. Many questions were asked, and everyone came away with some new knowledge on keeping themselves energized this tax season. The afternoon session kicked off with Tax Manager Ashley Brand leading the group in outdoor team building exercises. Everyone had to work together to solve puzzles and communicate to get the job done. Partner involvement proved to be the most fun of all. The group then ventured back indoors to an afternoon snack of fruit, veggies, and cookie trays. Rounding out the day were Tax Seniors Elaine Marquez and Sean Emadi’s talk on technical issues. IT Director Lisa Johnson and System Support Specialist Eric Vieth finished out the afternoon sharing information on IT security and procedures. Wrapping things up, Kelly Boswell spoke once more about how to recognize burnout. The partners made their closing remarks and, just like that, tax season has begun.
